About
I am a Marie Sklodowska-Curie postdoctoral fellow at the University of Turin's Law Department, guest research fellow at Eindhoven University of Technology's Eindhoven Artificial Intelligence Systems Institute, at LIUC University's School of Engineering, and at University of Milan's ISLC center. Since September 2024, I am also a member of the General Purpose AI Code of Practice four working groups established by the EU AI Office, working together with prominent scholars and industry leaders.
My doctoral research was very interdisciplinary, bridging Private International Law and Asian Studies from a critical studies perspective, and was conducted at Ca’ Foscari University. During my last year of the PhD, puzzled by the social consequences of new technologies on privacy and other fundamental rights, which I explored while researching on Japan’s robot regulations as part of my studies for the dissertation, I started to research the Law & Technology and Data Protection field.
Throughout my academic career, I have displayed independent thinking, a clear research direction, and a commitment to disseminating knowledge, as evidenced by my successful leading authorship in academic journals and by my dissemination events (c.a. 900 participants) and communication activities such as a TEDx talk (c.a. 600 participants). After my Ph.D , I worked as a Privacy attorney & consultant in Milan, deepening my knowledge of the subject, and as a Banking & Financial Law attorney, managing a portfolio of approximately 200 high-profile cases, many valued in the millions of euros (qualified CIPP/e in 2021). I also demonstrated leadership skills by managing a team of 3 junior team members and by supervising PhD students and research fellows. My curriculum has been evaluated as outstanding by several grant panels (MSCA; ERC; FIS 2).
In my latest research project, I explored the application of the AIA proposal and ethical principles in practice using the anticipatory regulation technique in a controlled testbed, tackling the issues of bias in data and AI governance practices, and opening a new line of research within the Electrical Engineering Department in collaboration with NXP Semiconductors.
I also co-authored several papers on the legal issues of computational intelligence with computer scientists and helped them develop predictive models, e.g., to achieve trustworthy AI models.
